Buck Island Ranch is a 10,500-acre cattle ranch, and is among the top-20 cow-calf producers in Florida. The ranches herd is ~3,000 Brahma-cross cows bred to 150 Angus or Charolais bulls.  Over 2,300 calves are raised annually.  Approximately half of the ranch is agronomically-improved Bahia grass pasture and half is unimproved or semi-native pasture.  All pastures are burned on a 2-3 year rotation and are occasionally chopped or mowed.  The herd is provided supplemental feed in the winter time.  The ranch operation revenue is generated primarily from calf sales.  Other sources of income include sod production and hunting leases.
