Many people, including staff, partners and collaborators help make MAERC and Buck Island Ranch an effective organization. Our small on-site personnel includes MAERC Director, Patrick Bohlen, and Ranch Manager, Gene Lollis and their support staff. Research staff currently include two research assistants and two field coordinators. Ranch staff includes a ranch operations assistant, three ranch hands, maintenance, and occassional day riders. There is also a part-time administrative assistant and housekeeping support.
Our program'a success relies on the many collaborators who enhance the scope and impact of our work. We have had many research collaborators over the years, especially with faculty at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. We also collaborate with faculty and programs at the University of Central Florida, Florida International University and faculty from other universities who have research projects at MAERC. Florida state agencies, especially the South Florida Water Management District and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services have collaborated on and provided significant financial support for many of our key projects. The Florida Ranchlands Environmental Services Project is a unique coalition that includes collaborators from the World Wildlife Fund, Resources for the Future, state agency representatives and other ranchers in the region. Finallly, we have had tremendous support from the Florida Cattlemen's Association and other partners in the cattle and ranching industries.
